Ready to go! ETF Strasbourg demonstration, 29 May!

Hundreds of professional drivers and union activists are on their way to Strasbourg, France, to make their voice heard on the EU Mobility Package. More than 3 000 000 EU citizens work in bus, coach and lorry transport, and the EU has launched a reform of their wage...

ETF never stops! Bus & coach actions today in Sweden, Italy and Austria!

Yesterday, the ETF Road Section scored a big success on the first Mobility Package vote in the European Parliament. The EMPL Committee adopted with large majority reports on posting, driving and rest time and cabotage that go pretty much in line with the ETF position:...

Driving tired: bus & coach stories

A one-day school trip to Paris That day I had to drive a group of happy kids to Paris. The bus was due to leave at 6 AM from the school in Diksmuide. That means that I had to leave the garage at 5:15 AM, leave home at 4:30 AM and get up at 3:30 AM. When we arrived in...

2015: 627 passengers & professional drivers died in bus, coach and truck crashes 14% cyclist and 42% pedestrian fatalities came as a result of accidents involving truck, bus and coach! Is this not enough?

The ETF, the European Cyclists’ Federation, the European Transport Safety Council and the European Federation of Road Traffic Victims continue their joint initiative to plea for more safety on European roads! This comes in the context of a very controversial revision...

The European Commission Mobility Package is a huge disappointment for us. Now, the proposals are in the hands of the European Parliament and the governments of the Member States. That is precisely why we take up action: to inform, share our concerns, make our voice heard, and influence decisions! We want the proof for a social Europe. The hundreds of thousands of drivers sleeping and living in their lorries for months, deserve it! Frank Moreels

ETF President, ETF / BTB-ABVV, Belgium

Roberto Parrillo

ETF Road Transport President, ETF / ACV TRANSCOM, Belgium

Professional drivers have been expected to work long hours with minimum rest for far too long. Without passenger and freight road transport economies across Europe would grind to a halt. We, Unite & ETF , are calling for the Commission to build a road package that delivers social fairness, fair employment practices and creates an industry that is attractive for workers. Adrian Jones

❗️PRESS RELEASE ➡️ bit.ly/2M5aFqP

🚚 Another big day in the European Parliament! ETF Road Transport Section and allies are near a solution on cabotage and fair pay for international drivers. The mobilisation of our member unions across Europe had a real impact in pushing MEPs towards the most worker-friendly decisions the Transport Committee has made in a long time! ✊

Sadly, there's still no fair deal on driving and rest, and the proposals on posting face an uncertain fate. Drivers and their unions expect a big step forward if the #MobilityPackage comes back to Parliament. Safety and #FairTransport must come first on Europe's roads!

Karl Delfs from our Austrian affiliate @Gewerkschaft vida has a clear message for MEPs voting on the #MobilityPackage tomorrow:
- Don't vote for rules that will mean truck drivers have to work three weeks before they have a proper rest.
- Don't vote for a reduction in rest time.

That is best protection against deaths on Europe’s roads. #RespectDrivers

"NO!" to revised EU rules for road transport, that put driver wellbeing and road safety at risk in Europe! Trade unions across Europe start actions ahead of Key European Parliament votes on #MobilityPackage.
Today, ETF starts action week on #MobilityPackage as the European Parliament is due to cast their decisive vote on drivers' driving hours, rest conditions and wages. Their vote will impact on driver wellbeing and the safety of passengers and all road users.
The EP may vote for drivers to drive and work longer with less rest periods in between; for drivers to be forced to spend longer periods of time sleeping in their vehicle cabins; for drivers to be paid their country-of origin wages no matter where they work in Europe. Consequently, trade unions organise a series of actions throughout January, to raise public awareness about these risks and their impact on European citizens. This week only, unions from 8 countries will participate in border blockings and massive public information actions!
