Strasbourg, 29 May: 500 drivers & union activists called for the European Parliament to reject more flexibility of driving and rest time

At the express call of trade unions from Western European Member States, the ETF organised a demonstration in Strasbourg, in front of the European Parliament, on 29 May. 500 drivers and union activists urged the European Parliament to reject any change in the core...

Ready to go! ETF Strasbourg demonstration, 29 May!

Hundreds of professional drivers and union activists are on their way to Strasbourg, France, to make their voice heard on the EU Mobility Package. More than 3 000 000 EU citizens work in bus, coach and lorry transport, and the EU has launched a reform of their wage...

ETF never stops! Bus & coach actions today in Sweden, Italy and Austria!

Yesterday, the ETF Road Section scored a big success on the first Mobility Package vote in the European Parliament. The EMPL Committee adopted with large majority reports on posting, driving and rest time and cabotage that go pretty much in line with the ETF position:...

Driving tired: bus & coach stories

A one-day school trip to Paris That day I had to drive a group of happy kids to Paris. The bus was due to leave at 6 AM from the school in Diksmuide. That means that I had to leave the garage at 5:15 AM, leave home at 4:30 AM and get up at 3:30 AM. When we arrived in...

2015: 627 passengers & professional drivers died in bus, coach and truck crashes 14% cyclist and 42% pedestrian fatalities came as a result of accidents involving truck, bus and coach! Is this not enough?

The ETF, the European Cyclists’ Federation, the European Transport Safety Council and the European Federation of Road Traffic Victims continue their joint initiative to plea for more safety on European roads! This comes in the context of a very controversial revision...

The European Commission Mobility Package is a huge disappointment for us. Now, the proposals are in the hands of the European Parliament and the governments of the Member States. That is precisely why we take up action: to inform, share our concerns, make our voice heard, and influence decisions! We want the proof for a social Europe. The hundreds of thousands of drivers sleeping and living in their lorries for months, deserve it! Frank Moreels

ETF President, ETF / BTB-ABVV, Belgium

Roberto Parrillo

ETF Road Transport President, ETF / ACV TRANSCOM, Belgium

Professional drivers have been expected to work long hours with minimum rest for far too long. Without passenger and freight road transport economies across Europe would grind to a halt. We, Unite & ETF , are calling for the Commission to build a road package that delivers social fairness, fair employment practices and creates an industry that is attractive for workers. Adrian Jones

We are happy to tell you that the Employment and Social Affairs Committee in the European Parliament voted today for more democracy at work. 🔥🔥
“For the first time the ETUC proposal to strengthen democracy at work in all EU member states, including in boardrooms, was accepted as a way forward." said Peter Scherer- Deputy General Secretary ETUC
So, here is the thing Companies that move their seat from one EU country to another must

✅give full information and consultation rights to their workers
✅give workers representation on the company board
✅have real economic activity in the country they are moving to - to avoid the multiplication of letterbox companies

😡The scandal in European road transport is spreading.

TV channel ZDF in Germany 🇩🇪️ is reporting on the exploitation of Filipino drivers. They're hired through Poland and paid much less than the German minimum wage. Utterly unacceptable. We need clearer EU rules to stop this now. Let's start with a good #MobilityPackage that builds #FairTransport in Europe!

Transport workers are not second class workers. 🚚💪🏽🇪🇺

Today we distributed information leaflets for drivers at the German-Danish border. Many of them have been working for weeks without real rest, they sleep in their cabins and do not get the wage they deserve.

We have to change the exploitation on European roads and come up with fair and workable rules for the workers in the sector.

Equal rights for equal work!
